Charge What You’re Worth – No Discounts for Chancers!

Let’s talk money. Specifically, your money – the rates you set, the value you bring, and why you should never let a client haggle you into working for less than you deserve.

You wouldn’t walk into a café, order a full English breakfast, and then ask, “Can you knock a few quid off? I can get eggs cheaper at Tesco.” (Well, maybe your Uncle Dave would, but we’re not here to discuss his haggling habits.)

So why do some clients think it’s perfectly acceptable to ask for a discount on your expertise, time, and years of experience?

Here’s the deal:

✔️ Your prices reflect your VALUE – You’re not just charging for the minutes spent on a task. You’re charging for the years it took to perfect your craft, the expertise you bring, and the quality of work you deliver.

✔️ Discounting devalues your work – The moment you cave in and slash your prices, you send a message: “I was overcharging in the first place.” Spoiler alert: you weren’t.

✔️ Not every client is for you – And that’s OK! The right clients won’t flinch at your rates. They’ll respect the skill, dedication, and results you bring.

✔️ Negotiation shouldn’t mean devaluation – There’s a difference between working within a client’s budget creatively and being forced into undercharging. If they can’t afford you, you’re not the problem.

Common Client Excuses (and How to Respond!)

“Can you do it cheaper?”
Nope, but I can refer you to someone with less experience who might fit your budget. 😉

“I know someone who charges less.”
That’s great! You should absolutely work with them if it suits your needs. 👏

“We don’t have the budget right now, but we’ll pay you more later.”
Funny, my landlord doesn’t accept “good exposure” as rent! 😆

“But it’ll be great for your portfolio!”
My portfolio is already looking fabulous, thanks. How’s yours? 😎

Know Your Worth, and Don’t Be Afraid to Walk Away

Clients who respect your value will pay your rates without hesitation. The ones who don’t? They’re not your clients.

You’re running a business, not a charity. Exposure, “future work,” or “promises of payment later” don’t pay the bills.

Confidence is key – If you believe in your worth, others will too. The moment you start doubting yourself, clients pick up on it. Own your prices!
