Why You're Scared of Delegating And How To Get Over It
There are lots of reasons people put off delegating but I find these are the main ones:
1. You've got stuck in the process, not sure how to let someone in
2. How do you teach someone your processes?
3. What if they aren't as passionate as you are?
4. Financial worries
Whilst all these reasons are valid, they are not insurmountable. You can overcome them. Here's how:
1. Don't try to think about how to let someone into your whole process, it will overwhelm you. Instead, choose just one thing you really need help with right now, and just explain how that bit works. Take it one step at a time as you move on to delegating more tasks
2. Make teaching your process simple, the aim is to explain the goal and how you do a certain task, but if the person you delegate to can have the same outcome with their own process, let them run with that. Voice notes and videos are great tools for teaching
3. Taking on freelancers is a great option for delegation, they will often be passionate as they are able to dedicate more time to you. But as long as you take the time to explain your expectations, most people will become as goal-orientated as you are.
4. It's a chicken and egg situation when it comes to spending money on delegation. Do you wait to bring in more money and then outsource? How can you free up your time to bring in more money without outsourcing? The best thing to do is bite the bullet. Start off on the smallest amount of hours to free up just enough of your time so you can go and grow your business, eventually that will lead to more income and increased hours.
It really all comes down to the fear of letting go, but if you want more time to grow your business or have a better work-life balance, you absolutely need to follow these steps, and get over that fear.
